What is Virtual Live Shoppping?
It’s like the Home Shopping Network—but on your phone. Brands livestream to showcase products and engage viewers. Shop Studio Live brought this to Shopify, letting merchants host live shopping events in minutes.
My Role
As the sole product designer on a 6-person team, I joined post-launch to audit the app, design new features, and ran quantitative testing to find UX improvements. The UI followed Shopify’s Polaris system and remained consistent during my time on the project.
Working closely with the Shop Studio Live team through a series of design sprints, I took the lead in designing the following features.
Expanded Product Descriptions for Shoppers
Shoppers originally had to leave the livestream to view product details. I designed an overlay with full product info—sizes, colors, and variants—keeping them engaged
Redesigning the Control Room
Earlier versions required merchants to install a third-party app to stream, which caused major drop-off due to technical friction. We replaced this with a simpler flow: users now scan a QR code and enter a pin to start streaming.
Download Livestream Videos
Merchants wanted to repurpose past livestreams. I added a download option to the report view and began exploring reuse options, though the project ended before launch.
Increased Customer Signups and Loyalty
Within six months of launching the new design enhancements, Studio Live saw a 15% lift in free trial signups and a 12% increase in customer subscription retention. These changes directly contributed to stronger user engagement and more sustainable growth for the business.
